The Rockford Public Schools Competitive Marching Band, or RCMB for short, is a competition focused, consolidated marching band that will rehearse outside of the school day, travel to area competitions, and represent Rockford Public School District 205 in a new way. You are invited to be a part of this new exciting group! We are inviting students from all four high schools as well as students who will be in 8th grade next year to take your musical talents to a whole new level.
The schedule of this group will be very similar to being in a fall high school sports team. There will be mandatory evening practices, summer practices, and Saturday competitions.
There is a $120 fee to participate in the band. This money is used for entry fees into competitions, hotel and travel expenses, is required for participation, and will not be refunded for any reason. Fees will automatically be added to the student's school account upon completion of membership contract.
Your participation in the band will require full attendance at rehearsals and competitions. Failure to attend rehearsals and/or performances without notifying your directors will result in you losing your place on the team as well as your deposit. We understand that emergencies pop up. We request that you communicate these in a timely manner. Work, doctors/dentist appointments, transportation issues, homework, or forgetting are NOT excusable absences. If you are ill, you need to make sure that you have been called into school that day, so that it is an excused absence. We are flexible and understand but please communicate conflicts and absences.
If you are on a fall sports team, our schedule during the week most likely will not conflict! Our practices are scheduled in the evening after sport practices. Participation in the competitive marching band will require you to provide your own transportation to and from practices and some events.
There are several advantages to being in the Rockford Competitive Marching Band:
The parent or guardian of each member is expected to volunteer at one event throughout the season. This could be anything from helping with a fundraiser, chaperoning a trip, moving equipment, towing a trailer, or other needs that may pop up. The level of success of this program is heavily reliant on parent involvement.
Schedule and Rehearsal Location-
Rehearsals will take place at Guilford High School throughout the season. We are lucky to have practice fields, access to a turf stadium with lights, and an indoor field house to rehearse our marching. Our indoor music rehearsals take place in the band room.
Color Guard & Dance Team-
We are very excited to have any students interested in color guard and dance team participate as well.
Members must be currently enrolled at least part-time within RPS205.
